The Ribnčan bean is an old variety of Slovenian bean and an excellent source of protein. It is a high-yielding variety with moderately vigorous growth and is suitable for grain production.

It is grown for us by Kmetija Beci, a family farm located at the foot of Lisce Hill.

Product Description

Although the bean as a plant originated in South America, our own varieties have developed here over the decades. One of the most indigenous varieties in Slovenia is the Ribnčan bean, which has been known since the late 18th century.

The Ribnčan bean is elongated in shape and has an intense reddish-pink color, with a compact skin and excellent flavor.

GOOD FOR ME:

Beans are a staple food, yet they are very healthy and nutritious. They are an excellent plant-based source of protein, which our bodies need to build, maintain, and repair tissues. They are also a source of polyphenols, which are antioxidants that neutralize free radicals in our bodies (harmful molecules that are byproducts of metabolism and other bodily processes). It’s also high in fiber, which promotes a feeling of fullness, aids digestion, and helps stabilize blood sugar levels.

Instructions

Soak the beans overnight in cold water. Then drain the water, add fresh water, and cook the beans for 30 minutes. Add salt at the end of cooking.
