Product Description

Turmeric, or Curcuma longa, is a spice native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. It is a rhizome-like perennial that grows up to one meter tall and produces large, decorative leaves and orange, white, pink, purple, or yellow flowers. It thrives best in partially shaded locations at temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C.

The rhizome is pear-shaped and bright orange in color. The yellow-orange pigment in the plant is curcumin, which has antioxidant properties. Turmeric has a mildly spicy flavor reminiscent of a mixture of ginger and orange. It is an essential ingredient in Indian curry spice blends, as it gives the curry its vibrant yellow color.
