Have you heard of loofah? Finally, a really good alternative to plastic dish sponges! This natural sponge is made from a loofah gourd: the ripe gourd is thoroughly dried, peeled, seeded, and cleaned— so it’s made of a completely natural, biodegradable material, suitable even for home composting. After drying and cleaning, an incredible interwoven system of fibers remains, which is exceptionally strong and durable. Due to its interwoven structure, it acts like a sponge and is ideal for washing dishes or even for showering. It’s soft and creates a nice lather (especially after a few days of use).
Since the loofah is very durable, you can use a single one for several months. Over time, it will also become softer and even more pleasant to use.

Natural Materials
Dantesmile loofahs are a Slovenian product, grown with love in the Dolenjska region. Since they’re grown locally, the transport route to Rifuzl is short, resulting in a minimal carbon footprint. Buying a loofah is not only eco-friendly, but also easy on your wallet, since (according to our customers) one can last for several months.
This natural dishwashing sponge is made from loofah. The loofah is a plant similar to a squash or cucumber. As it matures, an incredible spongy and fibrous system develops inside it. At that point, the loofah is dried, harvested, and cleaned. Then the loofah is simply peeled, and your dishwashing sponge is ready for use in the kitchen.
The loofah sponge has a pleasant, mild, straw-like scent. If it develops an unusual odor or the fibers begin to break down, dispose of it in the organic waste bin or in your home compost. Since the loofah is a plant and has not been further processed, the sponges vary from one another in size, shape, and color.

Wet the loofah under running water and apply a few drops of dish soap to it, or rub it against a bar of hard soap and lather it up as you would a regular sponge. Use it to wash the dishes (it’s also suitable for cleaning Teflon cookware).
You can also wash the loofah in the washing machine or dishwasher. You can also boil it in a pot.
