Which toothpaste works best for you?

Okay, I’ll admit it—when it comes to changes in cosmetics and oral hygiene, I’m a bit spoiled, and I need a lot more time than Manca to try something different—and even more to accept it. ??‍♂️ That’s why I still use a plastic toothbrush. But today I’m not going to talk about toothbrushes—I’m going to talk about toothpaste. ?

Manca and I have already tested our entire lineup of toothpastes and tooth-cleaning tablets. The selection is really quite extensive, at least for a small shop like our Rifuzla (that’s what we affectionately call Rifuzl): Thinktura hard toothpastes and tablets, 6 flavors of Georganics toothpaste and 2 flavors of Georganics tooth tablets, and, most recently, Toothie tooth tablets.

Manca and I have different opinions and don’t have a single favorite. I’m more “old school” and prefer toothpaste that has a refreshing menthol flavor and foams up. She prefers toothpastes without foaming agents.

We’re not all the same, and we don’t all like the same things.
Or to put it another way: 100 people, 100 tastes.

Since there are always dilemmas and questions about which toothpaste to choose from the selection at the store every day, today we’re sharing the opinions of all of you who already use one of the toothpastes available at Rifuzl. The goal is to use your opinions to make the decision easier for those of you who haven’t tried these toothpastes and tablets yet.

The order in which the products are presented corresponds to the order in which we added them to our selection. We’ll start with the one that’s been available from the very beginning.

Thinktura: solid toothpastes and tablets from a Slovenian boutique manufacturer

Thinktura is a Slovenian brand founded by Urška Rob. All of her products are handmade. Her solid toothpastes are something special—they’re essentially solid toothpaste on a stick, reminiscent of a lollipop or an ice cream stick.

NOTE: You haven’t submitted any reviews for the Thinktura dental tablets—probably because we’ve just added them to our selection. All the reviews below are therefore for the hard toothpaste on a stick.

What do you like about this product?
That it foams, that it has a menthol flavor but isn’t too strong. That it doesn’t come in plastic packaging—and has very little packaging overall. :)

What didn’t convince you about this product?
Hmm, I don’t carry it in my toiletry bag because I’m afraid it’ll get “scratched.”

What do you like about this product?
The compressed powder that forms the pellet on the stick is fine enough not to damage the enamel through abrasion, it foams well, has a refreshing range of flavors, and (as for the packaging) it comes in a paper bag that can be reused for other purposes (dried chamomile flowers or other herbs, etc.), and on a wooden stick that can be burned or will biodegrade over time.
I haven’t used the other toothpastes mentioned above; this one has been perfectly sufficient for me so far.

What didn’t convince you about this product?
The only problem with this toothpaste arises when traveling. It’s bulky and too big for packing or transporting.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that the essential oil in the toothpaste slightly irritates the throat lining after brushing my teeth for a few minutes. But that doesn’t bother me for now.

I like the idea of a solid toothpaste on a stick.

What didn’t convince you about this product?
Taste—I wish it had more peppermint flavor, something that makes your mouth feel clean.
Hygiene—It doesn’t seem very hygienic to me, because there are still some bacteria on the toothbrush, and it feels like they’re being transferred to the solid toothpaste. It’s more suitable for use by just one person, and even then, it’s not the most appetizing feeling. :)
Storage—I had a hard time figuring out what kind of container to store it in when traveling. At home, I put it in a little jar, but it still didn’t seem very clean to me.

It lathers nicely, and most importantly, it lasts an unusually long time—several months, maybe even a year. There’s practically no waste, and what there is, is biodegradable (the paper wrapper and wooden stick). I also appreciate that it’s a boutique product from Slovenia, not mass-produced.

What didn’t convince you about this product?
The fact that you practically don’t use up this toothpaste can also be a downside—if you don’t like it and would like to try something else. I don’t like the taste as much as with some other toothpastes or tablets. The packaging isn’t very travel-friendly.

✅ Thinktura Hard Toothpaste is for you if:

• you like to support local, boutique manufacturers,
• you buy products that don’t have to travel halfway around the world to reach you,

Another thing: Thinktura toothpastes come in really nice packaging, making them perfect as gifts. But make sure the person you’re giving it to will actually like it! ;)

❌ Don’t buy this product if:

• you need travel-sized toothpaste,
• you want an intense, fresh flavor similar to commercial toothpastes,
• you’re concerned about hygiene—that everyone uses the same toothpaste.

Georganics: creamy toothpastes in jars and toothpaste tablets from an international zero-waste company

Georganics is a major international zero-waste company based in England. They manufacture a variety of oral hygiene products—dental floss, mouthwash, natural rubber chewing gum, and, of course, toothpastes and tablets.

The toothpastes come in a glass jar along with a wooden spatula, which you use to “scoop” some onto your toothbrush. They don’t contain foaming agents, so they don’t foam, which surprises many people and even discourages some from using them. We offer a total of 5 flavors of Georganics toothpaste:

• neutral,
• activated charcoal,
• tea tree,
• mint,
• orange.

We addedGeorganics dental tablets to our selection a little later. Initially, we had mint in stock, but currently we only offer the orange flavor.

What do you like about this product?
That it comes in a glass container and cleans teeth well.

What didn’t convince you about this product?
Maybe the flavor isn’t strong enough.

A neutral yet fresh taste that doesn’t leave a sweet aftertaste. The tablet size is just right. The glass packaging. It’s convenient for travel since you can take as many tablets as you need.

Overall, I’m not a big fan of toothpaste in tablet form because I feel like I end up swallowing too many tablets, and brushing my teeth isn’t as effective.

It has a refreshing taste. What convinced me the most was the “taste” of activated charcoal. It comes with a spatula to make “applying” the paste easier.

Georganics is a major international brand—I prefer to support local brands, and the shipping distance is shorter, too. Although there’s no plastic waste, you’re still left with a glass jar and an aluminum lid, neither of which are returnable.

This toothpaste doesn’t foam, so it’s not suitable for those who like to have a mouth full of foam (I’m one of those people, for example). And with the activated charcoal, it leaves a bit of a residue on the sink, so you have to clean it more often. :)

We recently addedToothie to our product lineup. It’s a young Slovenian team that began producing and selling toothpaste in tablet form a few months ago.

Since this is a local product, Manca worked out an arrangement with Domno from Toothie to offer the tablets at Rifuzl on a “take-as-you-go” basis. This way, customers can take as many as they need, and there’s practically no waste! ??

It foams up great, has an excellent taste comparable to commercial toothpastes, is a Slovenian product, and is easy to use.

What do you like about this product?
They foam up really well! The tablets are great for traveling—you can take one or two with you; they don’t take up any space, and you can bring them on a plane. They also taste great—they remind me of some of the more commercial toothpaste flavors (which is a plus for me, but a minus for others). They lather up so well that I usually only use half a tablet for one brushing session.

What didn’t convince you about this product?
I have almost no complaints. They’re a little hard to get out of their original packaging. And over time, they got a little damp. That’s why we have them available at Rifuzl in bulk, so you can transfer them into your own airtight bottle.

I like that it fizzes. It has a slightly interesting taste, but you get used to it really quickly. I like that it comes in tablets that are just the right size.

The packaging bothers me a little. It’s better than plastic, but it’s still not reusable and creates waste. At the same time, it’s a minor issue if the tablets get wet, which is easy for them to do in this kind of packaging
